Description

"Caracalla, a Tragedy," Act I, scene i

This scene introduces a set of characters that will feature in later issues that I'll probably never get to because this thing is taking me forever.

The clown will play a large role in issue 4 (which takes place in the wild west, and will also feature the "Christian") and issue 14 (which takes place among pirates on the Indian Ocean and South China Sea).

The slave is going to be in issue 5 I think (this is going to be like a murder mystery that takes place in the last years before the closing of the Platonic Academy during the reign of Justinian); he's probably going to show up also in issues 9 and 10, which have to do with the rise of Charlemagne and the beginnings of science amongst the alchemists).

I'm sort of thinking that the Christian will be the only character to show up regularly during Marsilio's modern adventures as well as in his recollections, but I might also have the Nobleman show up (I kind of like the idea of having him be a figure for empire and Marsilio a figure for anarchy); the clown will be in issue 4's modern period. He's definitely showing up in the next issue (during the Civil War) and the one following (he'll be both in the modern section, in the wild west, and the ancient one, where he'll be a bishop who's trying to get Marsilio to return from self-exile in the wilderness. He's also going to be in the 13th issue, during the Crusades, where he will be a Moorish soldier who works with Marsilio to try and save Constantinople from the invading Crusaders.

Last, there's the nobleman. He's basically the face of evil for the whole series. No respect for human life or freedom at all. He'll play a central role in issues 3, 9 and 12, which deal, respectively, with Constantine, Charlemagne and the contest between the Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope. He's also going to be in the last issue, both as an explorer reaching the Americas and someone in what will be the future, around 2200.

Anyway, this means more to come.
