Hey Everyone,

My novel, Sundown, Sunrise was released a few days ago from Luthando Coeur and is now available on Amazon here. Please buy it and recommend it to all your friends even if you don't like it! Also, please write great reviews on Amazon (hell, you don't even have to buy it to write a good review)!

There are also two new paintings I've just posted that are early sketches for characters. And I have a blog, so you can all find out what I really look like.

Thank you all!

Michael

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry to all of my dA friends that I have paid no attention to them for the last few months. I do appreciate your support for my work over the past several years, and I feel like I owe a lot of the guts I had to get my new big project done to your encouragement. So that's my excuse! I've finally signed the contract with Luthando Coeur luthandocoeur.com/ an imprint of The Zharmae Publishing Press www.zharmae.com/ and am busily finishing up "Sundown, Sunrise," the first of a series of three novels I will be writing for them. Here are nice things they've said to describe the work (I hope I'm not violating any copyright restrictions by using their copy on my blog):

"Luthando Coeur is pleased to announce the upcoming publication of Sundown, Sunrise by Michael Cleaves. This is a moving, powerful fable with elements of Gnosticism. In many ways the editors of Luthando Coeur are reminded of Philip Pullman, although their are also intimations of Classical texts. Cleaves' work is inspired, and Sundown, Sunrise stands a chance of becoming a modern classic. Readers will look forward to the successive volumes, for Sundown, Sunrise is but the first installment in a projected Land and Sky trilogy.

Sundown, Sunrise is the tale of three teenagers coming of age during a war that is consuming their respective peoples. The Ge are a tribal society whose territory is coveted by the prideful and calculating Inhabitants. The Ge are a peaceful people, but if war has to happen, they are willing and able to fight. As the violence spreads beyond the Ge's borders, the teenage heroes must venture to seek help from the other peoples in the realm before their society is annihilated. On their quest the principal characters discover a world above their own, where powerful voices vie for control of everything. The three travel across cultures, times, places, and even into other dimensions, ultimately recognizing that only by working together can they stop the mysterious beings that control their peoples."

Anyway, here it is! I might publish some character drawings in the next days just to give people a taste of what the world I constructed looks like. Thank you all for your support!

Dear Everyone,

Recently, I have been working with a new startup publisher called The Zharmae Publishing Press, doing occasional design work for them and a few illustrations. They are really nice people. I've been working especially closely with the editors of their fantasy imprint, Luthando Coeur, and was hoping that any of my dA friends could show them some support by visiting (and liking) their facebook page: www.facebook.com/LuthandoCoeur

(for those of you who wonder why I haven't liked it, I'm... uh... not on facebook - look, it's way past the due date on that. They're going to come up with the next awesome one, hopefully one that doesn't spoonfeed our information to the NSA, and I'm going to be on that one, I'm sure).

Anyway, do something nice for a young publisher! Also, I did the dragon designs that ring their logo.

Hey everyone,

I need a favor! For no reason I can figure, over the past two weeks I've written the first half and a good part of the second of a fantasy novel. I've never really read them before. I mean, I watch Game of Thrones (or, as my wife calls it, "Porn of the Rings"). But who the hell doesn't? And I haven't read the books. I was more of a sci-fi kid growing up, and so the only fantasy series I've read is the Narnia books. The result is that I don't really know what counts as good and what doesn't, and I need some people to read parts of it and help me figure that out. I can't pay you anything, since I'm basically broke, but there will be infinite karma points and, if it's any good, you got to read a good fantasy novel! (Again, if it sucks, I'm sorry.) Maybe also some free artwork on commission.

Anyone willing to help a brother out, please contact me and we'll talk. Thanks!

Michael

Just a reminder to any New Yorkers out there, I'm speaking tonight (April 15) at 7 PM at Ben Katchor's NY Comics and Picture-Story Symposium, at Parsons School of Design, 2 West 13th St. (right near Union Square) in the Bark Room. I promise to be fascinating and/or exciting. The subject will not be my work, but a history of the way comics has thought about itself as a medium since the 1990s.
